This New House: Week 14 & 15

This New House: Week 14 & 15

Having to double up this week on my update because we had a bit of tragedy happen to our little family.  No, before you ask, it was not the election results.

We walked in this past weekend and discovered a beautiful surprise.  The most beautiful chocolaty floors running throughout the main living area, the kitchen and our hall.  It makes the place flow and look really big.  I am totally in love.

Later in the week we had our pre-final walkthrough( I didn’t get any pictures because I didn’t want the builder to think I was scrutinizing his work, but everything had been cleaned off, the sawdust had been removed and JZ and I were finally able to see all the selections we had made back in July fully come together.  It’s beautiful.  I am so happy and excited to start our new home together.

I can’t believe we are closing next Friday!  It’s like a life long dream that is finally coming true…

Let there be light!

We went by to check on the house this week and the sun was just going down but we could see a light on in our master bathroom from up the street.  JZ and I both said, ” we have lights!” in unison, it was exciting and totally cute.

Once we pulled up it got even more real as we saw we had grass, flower beds and two, what JZ is calling twigs, for trees.  It actually looked like a completed house for the first time.

We did go back in the day time the next day so that JZ could have a closer look at the plants they gave us, but I didn’t get any pictures because we had the dogs with us and I am just not talented enough to wrangle two dogs and be a photographer.

P.S. We are toying around with the idea of having the house painted before we move it.  We are really not feeling the “Toby Tope” color on the walls and rather have it a light dusty gray…Very Joanna Gaines-ish.  Let us know what you guys think in the comments.

This New House: Week 12

With the fantastic and surprising news we got last week of our moving day being moved up an entire month, we started packing this week!  Eeek!  I hate living with boxes everywhere, but I understand that it is part of the process.

The house is now moving SO quickly.  We went by this weekend with my parents and the builders had started tiling all the wet areas, we got granite in the kitchen and our amazing farmhouse sink has been installed.

It looks so good and we are so excited!  Next week we should be getting the kitchen backsplash, the bathroom countertops, lighting, electricity, and the landscaping completed outside.

Here are some photos of the tile work and the kitchen.  It’s all coming together great!

I was doing so well! I was on a roll with the weekly house updates and then life happened again and I fell behind. Once you fall behind, the self-talk really hits with “maybe I’ll just do a big wrap-up post at the end” or “who is even reading this other than my mom?”.

But no, if only for myself and for my fiance to look back on years from now, here is my update for this week.

We have a closing date!

We will be closing on our home Nov.18, 2016….you guys that’s a whole month earlier than we expected. The rollercoaster of emotions from excitement to panic have been all too real the last 48 hours as we look around our current house and just keep asking “what in the world are we going to do with all this stuff”?

So what does the house look like now? I am so glad you asked! Here is the latest outside photo.

We have brick and stone and yesterday they did the grading around the house so the fence can be put in later this week. CRAZY!  Below are some pictures of the outside I took each week to show the progress.  As you can see, the brick and stone went up literally overnight.  It was incredible.

As for the inside, we have had some great progress in there as well, but there is still much to go.  Below you can see that we have gone from pink insulated walls to painted textured sheetrock! Also, we have kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bathtubs and showers.  It’s all coming together so quickly!

JZ and I are so excited for the quickly approaching closing! More photos to come in the coming weeks.

We have a roof!  And a tub!

So two days after I posted the update from last week we were sent an email update from our fabulous sales rep that we have a roof!  JZ and I were so thrilled that we drove there that night to take a look.

Side note: Oh how times have changed that we are excited by a roof….must be something about being an adult.

We were also notified that our “Pre-Drywall Walk-through” would be taking place two weeks from now! I know I say this every week, but it’s really starting to move now.

Oh, and when we walked it we were surprised to see that guest bath tub had been delivered.  We are calling this Odie’s tub since he is the one that gets a bath on the weekly.

Looking forward to seeing the progress they make this week!

Here are some updated pics for you.

The New House: Week 5

The New House: Week 5

Sorry this update is coming a little later than usual but we both have had a busy week preparing for our bachelor and bachelorette party weekends.  More on those next week…

img_9558The house is really starting to take shape!  We have windows and a back door and a few pieces of siding.  I say a few not because their should be more, but the whole house will actually be stone and brick, even the back, but there are the odd bits of trim they have put in place.

We also have the start of hot and cold water lines being run throughout the house.  There is still no roof, which is obviously aimg_9525 major component and will need to be installed prior to any electricity being run.

All and all we are really excited and please with how it’s coming along.  Now, if only we could have a solid week of no rain we might be able to make some major progress.
