What Oprah Thinks I’m Striving For

by Jesshampson on November 3, 2009

I was surfing round the interwebs today and stumbled upon Oprah’s website.  Ok actually she sent out a tweet and that’s Oprah Winfreyhow I ended up there, that’s pretty much how all my surfing goes these days.  I am not sure how I feel about Oprah being on twitter, I just feel she might be spreading herself thin(and no that was not a fat joke).  Anyways they had this feature article on the home page for a quiz called “Who am I meant to be?”. So being a sucker for quizzes I took it.

The quiz focuses on 7 aspects of “striving styles” for seeking satisfaction in your daily life.  I list the seven styles below:

  • Help
  • Recognition
  • Creativity
  • Spontaneity
  • Knowledge
  • Security
  • Control

So it says that most people have two striving styles, but me being the oddball that I am, have 3.  Now before I reveal to you which of these I was, how bout you try to guess?  Or better yet you can take the quiz for yourself and see what you are.

OK, drumroll please….my top three striving styles are recognition, knowledge and creativity.

So then the test politely tells you why these are good or bad things to be.

Recognition-I like gold stars, I admit it.  I was that kid that wanted stickers on my paper when I got a 100.  Bad thing about it is, I can be a workaholic, but if you love what you do is that really so bad?

Knowledge- I am a total nerd.  I read business books, magazines, and blogs.  I go to lunch and learns, symposiums and conferences.  I LOVE to learn and if I could be, I would be a student for the rest of my life.  What does Oprah say is bad about this?  She tells me I can’t be the expert at everything and to that I say bull honky!

Creativity-So the quiz claims that I came “out of the womb with a paintbrush or flute in my hand” but thankfully for my mom’s sake I sing, so I did not bring anything out with me…*insert awkward mental image here*.   It says that I fear conformity and sometimes I feel like an outsider because I am so unique.  I think that was Oprah’s kind way of saying “You’re an odd duck…..weirdo”.

Well there you have it, a little more insight into my life as well as how Oprah feels I should be striving for satisfaction.  I hope it left you with the warm and fuzzies and if not, go read some Maya Angelou.

Oh and a quick Halloween follow up.  Despite my goal to avoid all primates look who sat behind me at the Rockets game.  Seriously, EVERY YEAR!!!monkey
