It’s Tea Time!

tea-timeSo being from England I get asked the question A LOT if I drink tea or if  my family and I have tea time.  The answer is, yes and yes, but only when I am in England.  The American lifestyle is not really setup for tea time and a chocolate biscuit in the late afternoon, as most of us are still at work.

I do love tea, though.  All kinds!  My favorite tea of 2009 is actually one that I discovered when I was living in Austin in 2008 and eating at a restaurant called Chez Zee.  I had always know Chez Zee for their delicious deserts, but an event planning meeting  had me there for lunch one day and that’s where I discovered MY tea.  I ordered the hibiscus mint ice tea and it was nothing short of AMAZING, not to mention their pecan crusted chicken, but I am getting off topic.  I asked the waitress about the tea and she said it was called Nile Valley Hibiscus Mint Tea and is an independent company actually based in Austin.  The awesomeness of this tea does not stop there!

I went to my local Whole Foods the next day and was surprised to find a box of this fabulous tea with a heart touching story on the back.  Turns out more than half of the proceeds of this company go to the Az-Zawrat people, a Nubian village in the northern Sudan.  The company’s donations have been used for many projects in the village, including education, health visits and creating a source for clean drinking water.  You can read more about the projects they are doing as well as order tea from their website www.nilevalleyherbs.com

And if that wasn’t enough, as I was writing this post I found that not only is this tea delicious but it is good for you too.  On their site there are many testimonials from people whose blood pressure and cholesterol has lowered due to the natural hibiscus and mint leaves.

So there you have it, an amazing tea made by amazing people to benefit an amazing cause. Enjoy!

Who would have thought that you would be drinking your first cup in Austin and not in Cairo Egypt,
